Creature from the Black Lagoon is the "new" Theatre of Magic
In life, you need a plan. At least, that is what I have heard. It sounds good. I know many people that have a plan. College, Job, Marriage, babies. That's a plan. A solid one.
Unfortunately, I have never had much success with making plans.
I've bounced to and fro through life. I am of the mindset that everything will work itself out eventually. It may not work itself out the way I want it to, but it will work itself out, nevertheless.
I have TRIED to make plans. I want a plan. I like the idea of a plan.
A few years ago I awoke with a start from a dream. In the dream, I was playing a Theater of Magic pinball. I did not remember the details, but I do remember how that dream made me feel. I felt happy. Really, really, happy.
In REAL life, my wife and I went the the Winchester Mystery house a few times. They had a Theater of Magic pinball there and we would play it for a couple of times. It's a great memory. I love my wife, and I love that machine.
After the dream, I formulated a plan in my head. I owned two pinball games. Jurassic Park and Star Wars (both Data East). I would sell those games and use the money from both to buy a Theater of Magic. Not much of a plan, but a plan nonetheless.
That was a little over two years ago. I sold those games. I had money in my pocket. I could finally buy a Theater of Magic! I scoured Craigslist and forums to find my grail game. For some reason, I could not find a Theater of Magic that wasn't completely over priced. It was expensive! Then, all of a sudden up popped a Creature from the Black lagoon. I like that game too!
I bought the Creature.
I ended up doing a ground up restoration of the Creature that took me almost nine months to complete. My plan was now history. I was the proud owner of an incredible example of Creature from the Black Lagoon. After that, games came and went. I didn't think about Theater for a long time.
Then, out of the blue, there was a Theater of Magic available and it was right around the corner from where I lived! I went in on the game with a friend. I am now the proud part owner of a Theater of Magic.
My plan is that I am going to restore it. We'll see how this plan works out.
