As an experiment, I decided to restore an arcade game. My wheelhouse is Pinball, so I didn’t really know what to expect. Atari used particle board wrapped in vinyl for their games, It was a pain to get the surfaces smooth for the application of new vinyl and artwork.
I first used a heat gun to remove the original vinyl. I used bondo to fill the large dents and skim fill to even out the particle board surface. Then sand, sand sand. Putting on fresh vinyl was difficult … I had a few air bubbles. Nothing to severe. I’m happy with the results.
This Asteroids is actually a three in one. “Asteroids,” “Asteroids Deluxe,” and “Lunar Lander” (you can see the large handle on the control panel – that is for Lunar Lander.
All in all, I’m happy with the results. I’m still waiting to get the coin door back from the powder coat person. I had the “owl” eye coin drops chromed as well. Should look pretty darn good.
